Who sleep consulting is (and isn’t) right for

When should you hire a baby or toddler sleep consultant?

Hiring a sleep consultant can be incredibly helpful for families who feel stuck with their child’s sleep. But, how do you know if that is the right direction for your family? Hiring a sleep consultant is an investment and you want to make sure it pays off. Here are a few starting points. Do you:

• Feel exhausted and ready for change
• Have a baby or toddler who wakes frequently overnight
• Want a clear, step-by-step plan instead of guessing
• Are ready to be consistent and see lasting improvement

If you said yes to any of those questions, you’re probably an ideal family to work with a sleep consultant. The clients I have that see the best results are the ones who are READY and WILLING to make changes to reach their goals. They are willing to replace old habits with news ones so that everyone in the family can get the rest they need.

There are also times when it may make sense to wait on jumping into hiring a consultant. You want to make sure that your investment is worth it, and that you can get the most out of it! It might be best to wait if:

• You've decided that "it's fine for now" and aren't committed to making a change
• You're not open to suggestions or thinking creatively when it comes to sleep
• You're about to have unavoidable schedule disruptions

Creating new, healthy sleep habits work best when families can focus on them for 10-14 days in a row. If you’re going on vacation tomorrow, it’s not the right time. If your child is currently sick, it’s best to wait until they are healthy. Also, if you're in the second category and it's working for you, great!! There’s no need to change if your sleep setup is safe and it’s working for you.

You may have been in the "wait" category before, but circumstances have changed. MANY of my clients come to me and say, “Rocking to sleep was working fine, but now it’s taking 90 minutes.” Or “I could push through the tiredness for awhile, but now I’ve hit a wall of exhaustion.”  It's okay to change your mind!!!

What does a pediatric sleep consultant do?

If you were my client, we’d start by meeting each other over zoom. I’d gather all of your information, learn about your parenting preferences, and create for you a customized sleep plan based on this info, and your child’s age. Then, as you implement your plan, we would be talking every day. You never have to guess what to do when you’re working with me. I want my clients to feel prepared and supported!

Is hiring a pediatric sleep consultant worth it?

If you’re wondering whether hiring me is the right move for your family, or if now is a good time to work on sleep, you’re always welcome to email me. You can also book a free consult and we can talk “face to face” over zoom! Sometimes just talking through your situation can bring a lot of clarity. I’d love to meet you and find out of we are a good fit to work together.
